THE BUD - A REGISTERED TRADE MARK
The Bud is the registered trade mark of Bio Suisse (Association of Swiss organic farming organizations). The prerequisite for the use of the Bud is a valid contract with Bio Suisse and compliance with Bio Suisse standards for the production, processing and trading of organic farming products.
STANDARDS FOR PROCESSING
The Bio Suisse standards define the principles for the processing of Bud-labelled products:
PRODUCE QUALITY? - PRESERVE QUALITY
Throughout the processing of Bud-labelled products, attention must be paid to preserving their quality, with a special emphasis on their valuable ingredients.
IN THE INTERESTS OF THE CONSUMER
Organic farming offers high-quality, healthy food produced while taking the greatest possible care of the environment.
ALL INGREDIENTS FROM CERTIFIED ORGANIC SOURCES
As a matter of principle, all the agricultural raw materials used in the production of Bud-labelled products must be from certified organic farming. Exemptions from this principle are possible, but very precisely defined.
NON-AGGRESSIVE PROCESSING
Bud-labelled products may only be processed by non-aggressive mechanical and/or physical fermentation procedures. Unnecessary processing steps are not allowed. Chemical processing, radiation and microwave treatment are forbidden.
MINIMAL USE OF ADDITIVES AND PROCESSING AIDS
Additives and processing aids are not used, unless the use of such substances is technologically indispensable.
The ingredients have to be of natural provenance, produced without genetic engineering. Approval by Bio Suisse is handled specifically for each product.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PACKAGING MATERIAL
As far as possible, environmentally friendly material must be used for packaging. PVC and other chlorinated plastics are prohibited as a matter of principle.
LICENCE CONTRACT
For the marketing of Bud-labelled products by processing and trading companies, a licence contract must be concluded with Bio Suisse. The licence contract sets out the rights and the duties of the licensor (Bio Suisse) and the licensee (processing or trading company). The licensed products to be marketed with the Bud are listed in the appendix of the licence contract.
LICENCE APPLICATION FOR BUD-LABELLED PRODUCTS
Licence applications can only be submitted by Swiss companies.
