6'300 BUD FARMS

Bio Suisse is the umbrella association of more than 30 organic farming organizations and about 6300 farms engaging in organic production in Switzerland (included 42 farms in Liechtenstein). A Bud farm is organically managed throughout.
Bio Suisse is committed to a form of agriculture with a promising future. This implicitly depends on Swiss agricultural policy, which is responsive to the market and pays due regard to the needs of species and the environment.
Switzerland is truly a pioneer country in organic farming. About 11% of its farmland is already cultivated to Bio Suisse standards.

GROWING MARKET SHARE FOR ORGANIC PRODUCTS

In 2004 Swiss retailers (such as Coop, Migros, Spar and organic retailers) and the Bud farmers engaging in direct marketing activities combined to achieve organic food sales of more than 1,19 billions Swiss francs. This represented outstanding growth of 3 % compared to 2003! Organic food now accounts for 3% of the Swiss food market.
